Method 1: The slow & free way

Interior Health Children’s Assessment Network (IHCAN)

IHCAN provides assessment and diagnosis clinic for children and youth living in the Interior Health region who demonstrate significant impairment in a number of domains of functioning, including development and learning, mental health, adaptive and social skills, or biomarkers such as prenatal substance exposure. They see children under three assessment streams: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and Complex Child and Youth

Eligibility

Children and youth 18 years of age and under

How to Apply

IHCAN referrals must be driven by a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or medical specialist.

Cost

IHCAN is publicly funded program (free)

Method 2: The fast & expensive way

Okanagan Ability Centre (OAC)

OAC is a private facility that offers a wide range of psychological assessment and diagnostic services for children, youth and adults. They work with other professionals in the community, including family physicians, pediatricians, psychiatrists, child development centers, government ministries, and school personnel, to provide comprehensive assessment services and coordinated intervention.

Cost

You will have to pay OAC for assessment services. Your private health insurance may or may not cover all/part of the costs.
